Getting Closer Now…

We have been living back on our Taswell 43 sailboat for over 2 weeks now.ย  Love it, it is cozy, comfortable, and we are working away at all the needed jobs to do before we take off.

mahicleangalleyI am happy to report that Mahi once again has refrigeration!!ย  It is so much easier to live on board when you do. Our compressor had failed, plus the relay switch.ย  Also, we needed to up the power from 15 amp to 20 amp service.ย  Works great!

Here (shown above) is what my fridge and freezer looks like in my galley, it is top loading for both and an additional bottom opening for the refrigerator, too.ย  I would like to tell you my galley is always that clean, but right now I have a provisioning pile back near the microwave.ย  Oh yes, a new toaster, too.

IMG_8224Cooking with our propane Force 10 stove is a breeze!ย  Have learned the settings to control the pressure cooker, too.ย  Here is a tortellini meatball soup cooking away under pressure.ย  This dish is yummy!

Last night I made a tasty pot roast dish in our Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker to have with fresh bread.ย  We can eat our leftovers now, or I can freeze them to eat while in the Bahamas.

Love this pressure cooker.ย  Hope to carve out some time to can before we go.ย  Thanks to Behan Gifford at SV Totem, for sharing how she cans with her pressure cooker, too.

IMG_8212IMG_8209The cushions are now back on Mahi.ย  On my “to-do” list are to sew up some cushion covers out of the turquoise microfiber fabric you see in the pictures.ย  Right now, I just tucked them under until I can get to that job.

In the first picture you see our TV/DVD player mounted on the wall.ย  In the second photo, You see the other side of the salon seating area.ย  Right now, I have the small table on.ย  This is because it is easier to provision behind the settee and under the cushions with the smaller table mounted.ย  It will be replaced with the large table once I am finished provisioning.ย  Notice, too, I have to mount the Mahi painting to the wall.ย  This is done with industrial strength velcro mounts.

IMG_8195Here is the navigation station with the new chair installed.ย  This is across from the salon settee shown above.ย  This gives you an idea for what our main salon looks like.ย  Actually, we have changed out some electronics since this photo was taken, also covered the empty hole with black starboard.

Now we need to add on a new barometer, too, plus have added our small on board printer back on the right hand side.

Newest purchases?ย  Wifi booster and a Iridium Go! Satellite phone.ย  More about that once we get it installed.ย  Almost there!!

12509112_190273017990581_1863192796116071724_nI leave you with a cool pair of Mahi glasses that my sister bought for me.ย  They match the boat perfectly, don’t they?ย  Cheers from Joe and Carla

Thanks, Becky! The boat is so very comfy! Trying to figure out how to get a Lafuma zero gravity chair on board though. LOL

How exciting – all the changes you have made look fabulous!! As I sit here watching the snow falling, I’m a bit jealous of your sunny, warm weather!!! Have fun on Monday – looking forward to hearing how everything went!!!

Coming along! Have been a cleaning fiend of late! Today it was the anchor storage space and forward head. Tomorrow is above Ethan’s bunk and the cockpit.

I just can’t even imagine exploring this adventure!!!! I think I’m more of a “land lubber”!!!! I/we had a nice time walking the SPI beach last week but, like you, this week has been filled with changing out the old and waiting on the new. Next is a new roof on our little place. We have some serious suspicions that some serious attention is needed and have decided to go with metal. Today’s 50mph winds curtailed any outdoor plans other than sitting in a sheltered(?) spot and reading. Temps in the upper 80s w/ sun made it quite “tolerable”!!! LOL!!!!! Can’t wait to hear of your experience on Monday!!!!! Hugs……………..
